Do you Really Want To Work From Home?

October 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment

If you are to seriously work from home, you must be a person who is able to motivate yourself constantly. In an office workplace, there is really nothing to do other than work. Yes, you can talk to co-workers and maybe dream about taking a nap, but only the “talking to co-workers” is a real option. When you are at home working, the nap also becomes a very doable option and things other than naps become temptations as well. Extra breaks, TV breaks, surfing the Internet, talking on the phone and all sorts of other things start to come in to play when you don’t have a structured work environment.

There are really three types of people when it comes to making money on the Internet and finding home jobs. The first kind of person is someone who has heard you can make money online and just wants to find out how to work at home and make a quick buck. This type of beginner is usually someone young or youngish and they have heard that you can make money blogging, filling out free paid surveys, or maybe even by Internet marketing. They might not have too many technical skills but they have heard that the Internet is a cash machine and they want their part of it. They might have even heard the terms “turnkey websites” and that sounds great to them. They are looking for ways to make money and preferably very easy ways to make money online.

Unfortunately for them, there is really nothing that is terribly easy and lucrative that is going to take them to the promised land as they hope. After buying some ebooks and trying some of the methods described in them, they usually end up quitting as they get frustrated with their failures. There are many legitimate ways to make money online but none of them will make you a truckload of cash without some serious effort.

The second type of person looking for ways to make money is someone trying to find legitimate work at home jobs or opportunity that is part time. This person might be a student, a mom or dad at home with the kids, or just anyone who needs and wants to make some money on the side. It might be someone who really needs more money to make ends meet or just someone who has some extra time and wants to have some savings. Being able to find work at home jobs will allow this type of person to perhaps make that extra money they want without having to commit to a real part time job arrangement. Jobs in this category include home assembly jobs, home healthcare jobs, work at home customer service jobs, data entry jobs at home, work from home typing jobs, and call center home jobs.

Being able to work from home during the hours you choose gives anybody an extra paycheck while not compromising their dignity. If times are tough and extra money is needed to make ends meet, a part time home job is much preferable to going out and flipping burgers at a restaurant. In fact, people who have “at home jobs” have no travel expenses and might be happy making less than minimum wage because of the convenience of it. I sort of fall into this category as I am trying to make extra money on the side but I do hope it will turn into something legitimate that I can count on in the future. Finding ways I can make money and work from home is preferable for me to being in the workplace if I can do it.

The third type of persons are those looking for full time legitimate work at home jobs that pay a full time wage. A full time wage means different things to different people of course. Some are happy with and can get by with perhaps $24,000 to $36,000 per year while many might need much more than that. The higher the wage required I would think the harder it will be for someone to find a job that pays well and allows them to work at home. Also, someone living in New York would have to make a lot more to get by than someone living in Arkansas.

Self employed people and entrepreneurs have the best shot at being able to run a business out of their homes. They can be involved in a countless number of businesses that might allow them the luxury of working at home and not have to go into a formal workplace every day. They are able to run their businesses from home much more easily now with the full blown emergence of the Internet and all the things like virtual meetings that go along with it.

Although writing articles is a great way for you to make money online, it is not necessarily something that you should do on a whim. First, you need to create a small business plan. After all, if you want to make money writing articles online, you are essentially creating a business. And a business like that needs to be well thought-out to be profitable.

It is also a good idea to decide what type of articles you want to write, ahead of time. Are you knowledgeable on the subject of software, cell phones, and computers? If so, did you know that you can specialize in technical writing, which tends to pay more? Do you want to stick with writing articles like traditional web content or would you like to branch out to sales letters and press releases? To make the most money, you may want to consider trying all of these different ways of making money online writing articles.

Next, you will want to decide who you want to write your articles for. Do you want to write articles for yourself or for others? Know that each approach has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, if you're going to use your articles to create a niche website that will make money through advertisements, it can take up to 5 months or more for you to start seeing a profit. On the other hand, if you obtain clients to write articles for, you should be paid within 14 days, on average.

You should also stop and think about how much money you want to make from home writing articles. Since you are able to write great articles and work from home, you may be seeing huge dollar signs. With that said, like any other legitimate work-at-home opportunity, you will not get rich overnight. Website content articles vary greatly. Some writers charge $5 per page, while others can charge as much as $50 for a single page.

Determining your rate ahead of time is not necessary, but it will help to ensure that you are paid what you are worth. Yes, you can raise or increase your rates, depending on the projects in question, but do not undersell yourself just to find a client who will pay you to write articles. After all, you want to make money, not lose it? At the very least, make sure you are earning your state’s minimum wage.

If you choose to write articles for others, you will want to target either webmasters or search engine optimization companies. Webmasters often look for article writers who can write content for their websites. SEO companies are hired by webmasters to market their sites and increase their search engine rankings. Article writing is an important component of search engine ranking. Aside from outright targeting these individuals and companies, you can also look for freelance job boards, visit freelance bidding websites, or create your own website.

If you decide to write your own articles to make money online, it is important to know that you have a number of different money making options. One of the easiest ways to make money from home writing articles is to sell your content online. There are websites that allow you to do so, but these websites tend to take a percentage of the sale. There are also websites that either pay you outright or with a page view bonus for displaying your article on their website.

Another approach that you can take is to create your own website or blog. You can use your articles to create a niche affiliate website. For example, if you're going to write articles on dog grooming, your website could have a generalized dog care theme. Later on, you can add additional articles, such as articles that mention tips for agility dog training, etc. With this approach, you can make money online through advertisements, affiliate products and Adsense ads.

As you can see, there are a number of different ways available for you to make money writing articles online. In fact, that is what is so nice about doing so. You have the freedom to decide how you want to make money online writing articles.

Having a home-based business nowadays is easier than ever. With the Internet providing you access to a lot of information, email giving you more chances to interact with people, and technology providing you with tools to take your office anywhere, you can put up an office in your kitchen and still make a profit if you know how to run your business well.

Thanks to an increasingly extended Internet market-place, what is more, there is big demand for computer and technology-savvy people. If you can work well with your computer, and if you have good software, then you can work from your computer and have your own home business.

Here are a few ideas that you may want to consider:

Virtual Assistant. Through the Internet, virtual assistants can schedule appointments, run errands, and in general, communicate with their bosses no matter where they are in the world.  Also by setting up your own home based secretarial business, you can earn money from typing and data entry via projects sent through email.

Paid Blogger. If you are fond of writing, and if you have a lot of things to say as an expert, then you can enter paid blogging programs. You can be paid by the article, and all you need to do is to write short articles on certain topics, and then submit these articles or post them on your blog. An variation of this is ghost writing, this is where you write a short article that will later be used a web content. For further information, look at freelance writing sites. Rates will vary depending on the length and content of your article.

Web Designer/Developer. Many companies have yet to establish their presence online, and in order to compete well in the Internet marketplace, they will need to have a great website. You can work from your PC and exercise your design and scripting abilities by providing designer and developer services. You can earn money through each web page that you design, in bulk for the entire site, or in staggered amounts depending on the number of times a year that you update the site.

Graphics and Print Designer. Some publishing and marketing companies are now turning to outsourcing their work instead of having in-house designers, as this can save them money on employment. As a graphics designer, you will need to have good design software, and even a good printer if you need to print out samples for your clients to look at. You can be paid for each graphic design, or for short-term services. You can work on company logos and letterheads, t-shirt designs, mouse pad designs, and even necktie pattern designs!

Editor. Many writers need good editors, not just to check their grammar and syntax, but to check the flow of their thoughts as well. Moreover, some publishing houses outsource editing jobs to freelance editors, as this saves them money on staffing. You can be paid by the page, or in bulk; all you need to do is receive files through your email, and then send them back with corrections.

So as you can see, starting a home business with your PC offers many different options, these are only a few options available to you.  As technology develops, there will be even more options for you to choose from. In the meantime, keep your PC clean, free from viruses, and running at top speed, and you can earn the money that you need in no time.
